A dot of blue in the black of your bliss (2008)

a dot of black in the blue of your bliss

the cracked sandy surface of your kitchen floor;
a dry desert-plain that begs for more,
than mine and yours casual conversation.

the brown grassy hills of your wall to wall –
the fake ancient war-chest beats in the hall,
the prophetic words in the library all speak of isolation.

always forever but never like this.
there’s a dot of black in the blue of your bliss.

in white pregnant layers of linen clouds.
you’re hiding deep in their womblike shroud.
each stillborn morning seems extremely loud –
designed to smash your face in.

always forever but never like this.
there’s a dot of black in the blue of your bliss.

the cracked sandy surface of your kitchen floor;
a dry desert plain that begs for more than casual conversation.
you’re learning to live with his many faces
the rub is he’s hard in all the wrong places.

always forever but never like this.
there’s a dot of black in the blue of your bliss.

come back

come back – all is forgiven.
come back – all is not lost.
come back – I know what you want now.
come back to me.

come down off your pedestal.
come down – off your high horse.
come get some dirt under your fingernails.
come sing for me.

plans change,
change is in their nature.
but I’ll be here come rain or come shine.
I wouldn’t care much if it’s dry or soaking wet
– we only miss what we don’t get.

so come now, time is a-wasting.
come out wherever you are.
come on back here
– you know what I want from you:
come sing with me.

get up and rise to the challenge.
get back here.
this time it’s alright.
get over here
– your point’s been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt.
come back,
come back to me.

the longest night

keep your clever lines.
hold your easy rhymes.
silence everything.
silence always wins.
it’s a perfect alibi –
there’s no need to analyze.
it will be alright
through the longest night,
just silence everything.

as you know;
that’s how it all begins.
and you know;
they can’t touch what lies within.
so keep those clever lines,
so nice to hide behind,
away from me
through the longest night of our lives.

learn from my mistake;
leave what others take.
speak when spoken to.
and do what others do.
cuz silence always wins,
so silence everything.

it will be alright
in the morning light,
just silence everything.
as you know;
they can’t touch what lies within.
and you know;
that’s where it all begins.
so keep your clever lines,
hold your easy rhymes.

you were quick to judge.
quick to criticise.
but too slow to know
what I’ve realised;
it’s the longest night of our lives.

time and place

there’s a time and place for everything –
for the battles that you cannot win.
there’s plan in all the suffering –
thoughts behind the foolish grin.

there is something good in everyone.
hindsight tells us what we should should have done.
but there’s a line you cross you don’t come back.
where self-defence is self-attack.

well, maybe there is.
yeah, maybe there is.
if you believe it exists.
I just don’t see it.

these are the faces we will never know.
these are places we will never go.
as we sit and watch the world revolve
around the problems that we cannot solve.
there are so many things to hide behind.
like the answers we will never find.

you say the clues are everywhere.
you say there’s something in the air.

well maybe there is.
if you believe it exists,
then yeah, maybe there is.
I just don’t see it.

your hands are getting so old.
your heart does what it’s told.
I know what we’re being sold,
I just don’t see

running out of reasons

I’d like to bring the shoreline to the sea.
I’d like to think that you’ll come back to me.
I’d like to write a decent melody
to bring back your sweet tenderness to me.

but every time I try to write,
nothing springs to mind.
the only sound advice that I can find is
walk away.
you’re running out reasons you should stay.
turn away.
I’m running out of clever things to say,
but that’s ok.

I’d like to lead the ocean to the shore.
I’d like to think that you’ll be back for more.
and we could live some place with ocean-view:
lake como, california, somewhere new!

but every time I try to call well nothing springs to mind.
the only sound advice that I can find is;
walk away.
you’re running out of reasons you should stay.
turn away
– don’t hesitate now.
I’m running out of clever things to say.

forgotten not forgiven

we made a vow that
we would live and learn.
but test your wings
you’re gonna crash and burn.

and by these words we’re driven:
forgotten not forgiven –
some day we’ll say
that’s who we were.

we couldn’t know how
it would twist and turn.
at first it wasn’t cause
for much concern.

and with these words we’re even:
forgotten not forgiven.
some day you’ll see
that’s not all we were.

your head upon my shoulder
makes me a little bolder.
what doesn’t break you
only makes you stronger.

the room‘s a little colder,
and we’re a little older.

so rest your weary head
upon my pillow,
and let your hair flow down
like weeping willows.

with these words we’re even;
forgotten not forgiven.
some day we’ll see
that’s not all we were.

yeah, with these words we’re even –
forgotten not forgiven.
some day we’ll see
just what we were.

more than good enough

we don’t need to see how this road bends.
don’t need to know how every story ends.
it wouldn’t be the same it was before,
and I don’t really need to know much more.

but you don’t have to hide your pretty face.
no you don’t have to hide those pretty eyes.
you shouldn’t have to phase out and pretend like you don’t understand.

we don’t have to learn from our mistakes,
just to know exactly what it takes.
you don’t have to listen to what I say – who am I to tell you anyway!

so you don’t have to hide your pretty face.
no, you don’t have to hide those pretty eyes.

you shouldn’t have to worry all that much – shouldn’t have to think about this stuff.

I know you think you must, I know you think you should.
I know you’re doubting if you could but I know you would.
I see it every time I watch your face my friend:
how there will come a time when you will rise again!

so you don’t have to hang your head in shame.
you are more than good enough for them.
you shouldn’t have to think about this stuff,
cuz you’re more than good enough.
more than good enough.

too far, too fast

nights I lie awake,
your voice inside me.
strange how much it aches.
strange how long it takes.

we played a different game.
we were younger.
and something we could feel
was something that was real.

too far too fast,
and too good to last.
too good to last for long.

so take a day off
from your life
and spend it here with me.
drop your guard
just one more time,
and then I’ll set you free.
take a look inside yourself
and tell me what you see;
by now I thought you’d realized
I’m perfect company.

too far too fast
and too good to last,
too good to last for long.

like the days rush to greet you.
like the stars fall to meet you.
like the sunshine that heats you.
like the rain when it beats you
and cheats you,
again and again.

too far too fast,
and too good to last.
too good to last for long.

too high too soon
and too much to swallow.
too tough an act to follow.
